I wasn't referring to skins, didn't even mention them.īut good job going off on a pointless tangent completely ignoring the point. I can even clearly designate what image it uses in the folder for its inventory appearance right there. Its easy to tell that hey if I change fuelAmount from 2 to 1000 I can just insta fill my ship with 1 coal. I mean hell majority of the client files you can open up with any old text editor and it'll all be very easy to understand english.
Currently even an idiot could go into the game files and make a game breaking mod with only a tiny bit of instruction. Currently far too much is controlled by the client which opens up a ton of security issues.Īlso I'll point out it is ridiculously easy to mod this game compared to minecraft and terraria. This is why I was pushing for more stuff to be implemented server sided instead of client side.
However if you allow people to bring in their own mods then you are making it much harder on servers and people making server tools. All the problems you are talking about can be fixed with better server tools which both minecraft and terraria have. But good job going off on a pointless tangent completely ignoring the point. Indeed, there's a few things to take into account in comparison though, which I'd already consideredĬlick to expand.I wasn't referring to skins, didn't even mention them. In the end though I feel like I'm inferring a general meaning out of your words where they might not be, so care to be a bit more specific, what all do you think would entail custom cosmetics and what would just be negative griefing unaffected by said cosmetics? Which yeah require attention in their own rights. Would it change one way or the other? Those propellers sure don't care whether the one to place them had clothes or not, or the unlocked chests. Though yeah, you're right there are good sized griefing communities. In the end the only connections would be skins, and yeah, bit more minor. That, and a lot of griefing isn't connected to penis skins anyways, but just other actions- which are in fact quite a bit more avoidable in Starbound as it's a bit more difficult to find someone, at least assuming there aren't clientside mods that would tap into server files and find out where people are (which I can imagine happening, but it's not extremelly high probability) and then there's the fact that all alternative griefing to a cosmetic item wouldn't be affected by a server mod to make custom cosmetics anyways. It's certainly not an extremely daunting task, but it would shave off some.
Click to expand.Indeed, there's a few things to take into account in comparison though, which I'd already consideredĪs far as the whole mod thing for custom "skins" as it were, Minecraft simply has you upload a skin, while with Starbound you'd be required to go into the files and place the proper file there.
